God of War (2005)

The Ghost of Sparta

A vow to Ares saves Kratos’ life and grants him power, but binds him to the service of the god of war. Tricked into killing his own wife and daughter, the Spartan carries his family’s ashes on his skin and a memory he cannot wash away.

After years of serving Olympus, Kratos gains a chance to defeat Ares through the power of Pandora’s Box. He wins and takes the throne of the God of War, but the gods’ forgiveness cannot erase his memories. His first revenge is complete; his suffering is not.

Taking back fate

From his new throne, Kratos continues to wage war alongside Sparta. Zeus strips him of his power and kills him, turning his troubled bond with Olympus into open conflict. With Gaia’s help, Kratos seeks the Sisters of Fate to reclaim the moment of his betrayal.

He turns back time, confronts Zeus again, and learns that Zeus is his father. Athena dies intercepting a blow meant for Zeus. Kratos brings the Titans forward from the past and leads them towards Olympus. Power over fate has not taught him how to escape revenge.

God of War III (2010)

The fall of Olympus

The assault on Olympus turns Kratos’ personal rage into a catastrophe for the world. Each fallen god brings consequences far beyond the battle. On his path to Zeus, Pandora becomes a rare human connection amid the destruction.

Pandora sacrifices herself and Zeus is defeated, but victory cannot bring the dead back. When Athena demands the power of Hope, Kratos impales himself with the Blade of Olympus and releases it to humanity. God of War III ends with a broken world and a trace suggesting that his story is not over.

God of War (2018)

A father and son’s journey

Years later, Kratos lives in the Norse lands with his son Atreus. After Faye’s death, father and son carry her ashes towards the highest peak in the Nine Realms. Their journey pushes a father used to silence to explain himself, trust his child, and reveal the truth.

Kratos takes up the Blades of Chaos again to save Atreus, then confronts Baldur and the hatred passed between generations. In Jötunheim, they discover that Faye was a Giant and that the name she chose for her son was Loki. A farewell to Atreus’ mother becomes a new question about his identity and their future.

God of War Ragnarök (2022)

Changing the prophecy

Fimbulwinter grips the Nine Realms. Atreus seeks to understand his identity as Loki, while Kratos tries to protect him from Thor, Odin, and the prophecy of his own death. Their choices gradually lead father and son towards the war they hoped to avoid.

Ragnarök still arrives, but Kratos no longer acts only out of revenge. He chooses to protect innocent people, seeks an end to inherited violence, and lets Atreus follow his own path. After the war, a final mural suggests a future in which he may be remembered with respect. For LYFP, changing fate begins with changing how one lives.

What Kratos wants to leave behind

Seen together, the five games trace a clear shift: Kratos once sought power to break every limit, then had to learn to set limits for himself. Revenge can end a battle, but it cannot simply restore his family or his peace.

For LYFP, the journey’s weight lies in the distance between a father who caused a tragedy and a father trying to offer his son a different future. The scars remain, but they do not have to determine every choice that follows.
